There’s nothing quite like learning from the "big kids!" East High student leaders taught an interactive lesson on car seat and seat belt safety, helping students K-2 understand how to stay safe on the road. Hats off to our Volunteers! Thanks to all of the parent organization leaders who joined us for the 2nd annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Over dinner, these officers from PTO/PTC and Booster groups across the district learned more about facilities plans and construction projects; the work underway to revise our Continuous School Improvement Plan and the district budget. The Q&A was lively as they broke into small groups led by Superintendent, Dr. St. Pierre, and CFO , Mr. Whittle. They shared celebrations from this year and goals for next. The evening ended with some networking bingo, helping build relationships between schools. Thank you to our parent leaders and to all of our volunteers as we wrap up National Public School Volunteer Week. It takes us all to Educate, Empower and Equip Students to Excel.

Did you know more than 49,000 Americans died by suicide in 2023, one death every 11 minutes? Our free event brings our community together, providing resources for families and emphasizing the importance of supporting the mental health of our students. Children learn through play. Families of students ages birth-5 years can connect with our Parents As Teachers program, which hosts group events and offers visits from our Parent Educators. Fort Zumwalt recommends all age-eligible children have a developmental screening, yearly, to assess progress in all areas of growth and development, including problem solving, communication, personal development, motor skills, health, vision and hearing. The East High Enterprise Eatery has embraced a new mission this school year - planning appreciation lunches. The class, which focuses on developing and reinforcing marketable job skills, has hosted lunches for principals, counselors and paraprofessionals. “Planning appreciation lunches has become one of our new favorite things to do!” teacher Brooke Petry says. Collaborating with students from the Leadership class, the Enterprise Eatery creates the menu, invitations, decorations and the meal. Nope, you weren't imagining that shine you returned to in our schools this week. From multipurpose rooms to school offices the team travelled the district polishing up all they could so schools hosting programs this summer will be ready to Educate, Empower and Equip Students to Excel.
Once each month Fort Zumwalt students and staff pause for Early Release Days. On these Wednesdays, like tomorrow, students and staff celebrate progress, achievement and collaboration.
At our elementary schools, students are recognized during celebration assemblies for meeting individual or class goals. Ask your elementary student about their goals for the school year (academic and personal) and how they have tracked their progress since August. Secondary students also monitor their own progress and are able to utilize advisory time to get extra help meeting a goal if they need it or to explore something new.
Setting goals and tracking progress is equally important for our teachers. Once students are released (2.5 hours early), teachers work in Professional Learning Communities to review student data. Together they plan strategies to meet student’s individual needs. They collaborate to support each other in best practices and grow as a team and meet our mission to Educate, Empower and Equip Students to Excel.
