Safe Places ... text SAFE to 44357

NationalSafePlace.org partners with youth-friendly businesses and community organizations to provide places where youth in crisis situations can get help immediately. Find a business that displays the SAFE PLACE sign and tell one of the staff that they need a safe haven; they are trained to immediately call Youth In Need (YIN); someone from YIN will pick them up and transport them to their emergency shelter.

Services for Families in Transition/Homeless Students
A homeless student is one who lacks a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence. This includes students who are staying in transitional or emergency shelters, campgrounds, or motels; sharing housing with other families due to a loss of housing or an inability to afford housing; abandoned in a hospital, staying in a substandard housing or living in places not ordinarily used for sleeping.

Homeless students are automatically eligible to participate in the school meals program, instructional services through Title I, and other district services intended to support academic success such as tutoring and transportation to the school of best interest.  

Services Include

Services available to students and their families so that every child achieves to their potential.
Immediate enrollment in school and removal of barriers to enrollment
*Transportation to and from school.
*School supplies, backpacks, etc.

National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth
The National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (NAEHCY) is a national membership association dedicated to educational excellence for children and youth experiencing homelessness. Through state and federal policy and technical assistance to NAEHCY members, students, and the public, NAEHCY changes systems so all children and youth can learn, succeed academically, and achieve their dreams.
