Kindergarteners settle in to work on the sounds letters make and how to write them. They also learn how pictures and words work together and how to express what else they wanted to know by building statements that started with “I wonder …. “
If you’re wondering about kindergarten for next fall, set a calendar reminder for January to start watching go.FZSD.us/Kindergarten for updates on enrollment and more.

Thank you Veterans

Tonight our community is grieving. A family lost a child, a school lost a student and our entire community feels this tremendous loss. At a time like this, there is no way to express the grief we all are feeling. Right now our priorities are to respect the privacy of the student’s family and to take care of our students, families, staff and community. We have already arranged to have resources and extra support for our students, staff and families at school tomorrow and will do everything we know to take care of them in the days and weeks ahead. I am asking all members of the Fort Zumwalt community to please do what you can to support each other as we work through this difficult time.
Dr. Paul Myers
Superintendent
Fort Zumwalt School District

Teachers are lifelong learners. What better professional development for our student teachers than to network with each other and to meet with our Human Resources experts? These future educators are already a part of our school community, working side-by-side with our veteran teachers in our classrooms through their student teaching experiences. The entire HR team, including incoming Superintendent Dr. Henry St. Pierre, was available to answer questions and offer coaching on everything from resume writing to what to expect from the onboarding process. You Matter! #FZEquipToExcel

Today is Election Day.

Transportation has been turning heads across our 126 square miles, changing their bus decorations with the seasons. A special congratulations to Ms. Tina! She won the department's costume and decorating contest with her spot-on Miss Frizzle and the Magic School Bus - complete with lessons for students to take in as they hop on and off at their stops each day. Making every minute count. #FZJoy 📸JConoyer

Our Blue Notes are so popular with students, parents, guardians and the community that we want to make sure you know you can submit one any time. You can send a Blue Note from any of our websites any time. Just click the button on the banner to Send a Blue Note. We share them twice each year before Winter Break and during Staff Appreciation Week in May. You can submit as many Blue Notes as you like, to any staff member you want to celebrate.

Our teachers are lifelong learners, too. Teams from all 16 elementary schools have brought strategies and best Professional Learning Communities practices back to their buildings from four professional development sessions this year. Two sessions remain.
What does that mean for students?
At Lewis & Clark Elementary, it has guided grade-level teams as they peel down to the most crucial skills students need to master before the end of this school year. Their most recent work was done on math standards. Third Grade focused on helping students add and subtract within 1,000 while Fourth and Fifth Grade focused on fractions.
“We have to take more time with those standards to make sure kids understand,” Principal Peter Johnson says, emphasizing that everything we teach is important, but some things are more important. “To do that, teachers have to understand. It's hard work, but so valuable for our Mathletes.” 📸PJohnson
