The Transportation Center is on schedule for completion this spring. The department should be moving to the new center, near the intersection of Salt River and Iffrig roads just north of Mid Rivers Mall, in June. The move will unify the staff that currently is split over two locations: the old facility next to North High and the trailer that serves as a satellite facility behind Westhoff Elementary.
The new location will provide about twice the space for mechanics to perform regular maintenance and repairs on our fleet of more than 170 buses. The new location also will eliminate traffic issues for families at Westhoff and neighbors in the Homefield subdivision, bringing the entire fleet to a centrally located headquarters. Watch for updates on upcoming events so you can see the facility.
As summer approaches, the project list is nearly finalized. The 14 weeks between the last day of school in May and the first day of school in August are a whirlwind for our construction and maintenance teams. Projects made possible thanks to voter approval of Proposition 4 in 2022 will be underway at the following locations:
North Middle - HVAC, flooring
Pheasant Point - HVAC, flooring
Rock Creek - HVAC, flooring
Westhoff - HVAC, flooring
Flooring work at these schools is in conjunction with the removal of HVAC equipment from classrooms.
In addition, insurance work will be underway at several schools. This is still the recovery from the March 2024 hail storm that cut through downtown O’Fallon and the northern section of the district. Roofing work will be underway at:
Forest Park
JL Mudd
North High
This construction and maintenance schedule overlaps with the deep cleaning and regular maintenance that is scheduled for every facility, along with summer camps, summer school and teacher prep days.
