Thank you Rep. Dave Hinman (Mo 103) and Rep. Terri Violet (Mo 104) for joining us on our first-ever Workforce of Tomorrow Tour as a part of Legislators in Our Schools Week. They joined us on four stops to see how, from the smallest to the tallest, we are building skills to Educate, Empower and Equip tomorrow’s workforce to Excel.

At FZE, student ambassadors welcomed state reps to teach them about FZSD biomedical and engineering courses. Underclassmen in Ms. Weiser’s Human Body Systems class were building the heart for the human systems models they have been building all school year. In Ms. Stowers’ Biomedical Innovations and Mr. Loutzenhiser’s engineering classrooms, legislators heard about student research and design as they work to solve problems in areas such as dental health and even cafeteria furniture design. Building the workforce of tomorrow one solution at a time.

At JL Mudd, Hinman and Violet visited with staff and participated in the morning meeting in Ms. Battram’s class, greeting each other and learning how to actively listen and work together as a classroom team. In Mrs. Hawkins’ Technology Class, second-graders showed off their keyboarding, coding and digital design skills, offering their guests a few tech tips. Building the workforce of tomorrow one greeting at a time.

At the Elevate Academy and Resource Center, state reps had a personal tour guide who introduced them to the power of thinking Win-Win. Elevate Academy students refine their job skills serving Fort Zumwalt families in need. Together they fulfill orders for weekend backpacks or other supplies and ship them to any of our 28 schools. In the Enterprise Class, they hone their customer service skills serving “Elevated Sodas” and creating marketable products, such as jewelry and key chains. Building the workforce of tomorrow one smile at a time.

At their last stop, they were treated to a number from the West Middle 7th Grade Band as they put the finishing touches on their performance for next week. Seventh graders shared what music means to them and why band is such an important part of their school experience. Legislators were included in a special tradition from the band room, as students shared a rubber duckie keychain with each of them. Building the workforce of tomorrow one note at a time.
