Today across Fort Zumwalt our schools recognized Missouri Day. In 1969 the 75th General Assembly designated Oct. 15 of each year as Missouri Day. Missouri was admitted to the union in 1821 and played a vital role in early America. Its rivers helped establish transportation and commerce opportunities, and it became known as the Gateway to the West as many people from the east met in Missouri and headed west for new opportunities. Missourians continue to play an important role in the economy through agriculture, aerospace, professional sports and transportation.
Families and residents can also join the observance with some state trivia or a virtual tour of the Hall of Famous Missourians in the Missouri House of Representatives.
