Welcome Dr. Riley Williams, Principal, Progress South Elementary

Progress South Elementary will have a familiar face as its new principal when Dr. Riley Williams officially begins in the role on July 1. Williams, who has been a part of the Progress South community since 2022 as an Assistant Principal, is also a familiar face around Fort Zumwalt School District. She started with the district in 2018 as a second grade teacher at St. Peters. She understands Progress South’s proud tradition—the school first opened its doors in 1973.

“My primary focus is on strengthening the culture and climate of our school,” Williams says. “I want to ensure that every staff member feels valued and supported so we can collectively create the best possible experience for our students. Supporting and empowering teachers and staff, while also building relationships with families and the wider community, is something I’m genuinely excited about.”

She is focused on the daily moments that strengthen connections with students, families and staff. “Whether it's greeting students at arrival, attending after-school events, or joining classroom activities, I plan to be a consistent and approachable presence,” Williams says.

Growing up, Williams says she spent most of her summer days outside. “From sun-up to sun-down.” Now, she still spends her free time outside, taking walks with her husband, daughter and dog. The young family also spends time working on home renovation projects and Williams builds in regular time for her own professional growth. She has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a master’s degree in Teaching and Technology, a specialist’s degree, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership—all from William Woods University.

“I’m diving deeper into strategies for coaching teachers and building strong school teams,” Williams says. “I’m especially interested in how intentional leadership can impact staff morale and student achievement. But, I'm also enjoying all the parenting books as a first time mom. Give me all the tips!”

Williams takes on the role effective July 1.
