Yearbook photo and Welcome John Schulte, Deputy Superintendent

John Schulte has been named Fort Zumwalt School District’s Deputy Superintendent, effective July 1. Schulte, who started his career as an elementary school teacher in Fort Zumwalt, has served the past three school years as the Assistant Superintendent for Student Personnel, overseeing enrollment and residency, discipline, homeless and foster services and the district’s wide array of alternative learning programs. He spent almost 20 years in the Wentzville School District as an elementary principal and as the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services.

Schulte replaces Dr. Henry St. Pierre, who will move into the Superintendent's role effective July 1. As Deputy, Schulte is looking forward to additional opportunities to explore how the district can continue to adapt support systems for staff and students. As an example, he is interested in learning more about how physical spaces can better meet student needs in the future. While Schulte will have new responsibilities as the Deputy Superintendent, he will continue to oversee Student Personnel.

“Parents have entrusted us with the task of preparing their children for their next adventure in life,” Schulte says. “My heart is in working to see all students succeed, especially those who might bring additional adverse experiences to school with them. Each child presents us with an opportunity for success and it is up to us to wrap the required services around them as they grow and mature.”

Schulte, a St. Peters native, is focused on giving teachers and staff the tools to work with students requiring support at many levels. While working toward his bachelor’s from UMSL and his master’s and specialist degrees from Lindenwood, Schulte also spent time in the restaurant industry. He traveled the country during his summers, opening Steak ’n Shake franchises. He says it helped him find his niche, implementing systems by ensuring the right people were in the right places with what they needed to succeed. Strong systems and the community are part of what brought him back to Fort Zumwalt.

“Fort Zumwalt has a tradition as a high achieving district,” Schulte says. “The leadership is so strong, and it’s been consistent under Dr. [Paul] Myers and Dr. St. Pierre is poised to continue this commitment. With the support of a student-centered Board of Education that has such a solid relationship with our community and with our staff, we can accelerate the timeline of what we can do to meet the needs of today’s kids.”
