Board members raise their right hands and take oath of office

Statute requires Fort Zumwalt, which the state classifies as an urban district because of the total population within its boundaries, to reorganize the Board of Education within 10 days of the election. At the meeting last Thursday, John Christopher (left) and Jeff Marion (right) were sworn in for their new three-year terms as Board members. Erica Powers was voted President and Gabriel Helms was voted Vice President.

A few important notes about Board of Education members in the state of Missouri:

  • Board members are elected as non-partisan, at-large candidates. They run with no political affiliation and represent the entirety of the school district, rather than a ward or district.

  • Board members are elected volunteers. There is no compensation for this service to the community.
