Fort Zumwalt School District scored an 88.6 percent on its Annual Performance Report from the state, the highest performing Missouri district serving more than 7,500 students. But what does that mean for students and how can we continue to perform at or close to this level? Let’s take a closer look.

Achievement is measured for All Students. It is also measured for what the state calls the Student Group, which comprises students who are black or Hispanic; who are English Language Developers; who are participants in the federal free-and-reduced meal program; or who are on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). These students count both in the Student Group and in the overall score for Achievement.

The state scores schools and districts on two sets of standards, the Performance Standards (70 percent of points available) and the Continuous Improvement Standards (30 percent of points available). Fort Zumwalt earned 100% of the points possible for Academic Achievement Status for All Students in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, as well as for our Student Group in ELA and Social Studies. The Student Group is On Track in Math and Science according to state metrics.

In the areas of Academic Achievement Growth, Fort Zumwalt scored Above Average in Academic Achievement Growth for All Students in ELA, Science and Social Studies. The district scored Average in Student Group ELA, Science and Social Studies as well as in All Students Math. The District scored Below Average in Student Group Academic Achievement Growth Math.

Other areas where the state grades school districts:

  • Attendance has been a focus area for Fort Zumwalt as it has been for districts across the country. According to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), 85.2 percent of Fort Zumwalt students were in regular attendance during the 2022-2023 school year.

  • Number of students participating in College-Career Readiness assessments, which has steadily decreased since 2019. Assessments such as the ACT, SAT or ASVAB can help connect students with opportunities for life after high school.

  • Career Technical Education Expansion. The APR also recognized Fort Zumwalt’s work in this area through the FZ United States Department of Labor Certified Apprenticeship Program.

  • Fort Zumwalt also earned all of the points possible in the Graduation Rate category. The state measures students who have graduated in four, five, six or seven years.

Finally, the district earned 98 percent of the Continuous Improvement points, missing one point because of our attendance rate. Learn more about our Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP),which outlines the district’s mission and vision, as well as five priorities with goals and action steps for the next two years.
