Our Calendars

ABCDE calendars and AB calendars. The meanings of these calendar systems depend upon the age of your students. They will be very confusing at first, but soon will become second nature for you and your family. When in doubt, check your school’s calendar on the app or website. Buildings who serve grades K - 8 have the letter days built into their calendars.

At the elementary level, students operate on ABCD or E days. The system becomes very handy when we have a three-day weekend or miss a day of school because of weather. The first day of school is an A day. Each subsequent day after that follows the alphabet rotation. When school is called because of weather, the day we return to class follows the alphabet rotation. Elementary students have nine Early-Release Days on the calendar. On those days, all Fort Zumwalt students are dismissed two-and-a-half hours early. These Wednesdays are marked on the district calendar and are also on your school's calendar in the app or on the website.

In
middle school, the first day of school is an A day and the days alternate through the school year. This allows students even instructional time in their alternating electives. So A then B then A then B then A. The following week would be B, then A, B then A, then B. If we are out a day for snow, the next would be determined by the day we missed. So if you missed an A day, it's A when you return. Middle school students have nine Early-Release Days on the calendar. On those days, all Fort Zumwalt students are dismissed two-and-a-half hours early. These Wednesdays are marked on the district calendar and are also on your school's calendar in the app or on the website.

At the high school level, an A day is a regular school day. A B day is a block day, when students will attend their odd-numbered classes for an extended period of time. A C day is a Wednesday when students are released 90 minutes early after attending their even-numbered classes for an extended instructional time. A D day is a district-wide Early-Release Day. High school students will attend their even-numbered classes, but be released two-and-a-half hours early. The easiest way to determine if high school students will be out early on a Wednesday is this: Are they going to school all five days this week? If the answer is yes, then high school students will be released early. On the nine district-wide Early-Release Days, all Fort Zumwalt students are dismissed two-and-a-half hours early. These Wednesdays are marked on the district calendar and are also on your school's calendar in the app or on the website.
