The Fort Zumwalt North Panther Players will present The Outsiders, Christopher Sergel’s heartfelt stage adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s classic coming-of-age novel. This powerful story dives into the lives of the Greasers and the Socs—two groups divided by class, but united by the universal struggles of growing up, finding identity, and seeking connection in a complicated world.

The Outsiders tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis (Vincent Fox), a sensitive teenager growing up in 1960s Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ponyboy and his brothers, Darry (McGregor Pickett) and Sodapop (Lucas Veinot), are part of the "Greasers," a close-knit group of working-class kids constantly at odds with the wealthier "Socs.”

The play follows Ponyboy’s struggle to make sense of the violence, loyalty, and prejudice that define his world. After Ponyboy and his best friend Johnny Cade (Evan Nigus) are attacked by a group of Socs, Dallas (Cooper Jackson) arranges for them to go into hiding, sparking a chain of events that changes their lives forever.

While in hiding, Ponyboy and Johnny share moments of reflection and watch a sunrise—leading to Johnny’s poignant reminder to "stay gold," urging Ponyboy to hold on to innocence and beauty despite hardship.
