Sean Lawson and Kait Simms holding certificate together

Our Lionheart Thespians recently attended ThesCon in downtown St. Louis from January 8-10. Students are exposed to and challenged in areas like tech skills, improv, musical, auditions for the state show, and competitive events.

Sean Lawson and Kait Simms competed in the musical portion of the convention. Their hardwork and performance earned them an Excellent rating for Duet Musical!

Sean Lawson also auditioned for a production that will take place during the 2027 MO State Thespian Conference. Sean was competing against students from across the state to earn one of 20 parts, only half of which were parts for male students. The play is called "Blue Stockings," and Sean was selected to play the role of Dr. Radeigh/Billy!

This is a huge honor for Sean, our troupe, and East High School. Sean will be attending virtual rehearsals throughout the spring and fall and will have to attend a week-long camp during July. The camp will be held at Webster University and Visitation Academy.

Blue Stockings is set in 1896 at Girton College, Cambridge, the first women’s college at the university. The play follows a group of young women fighting to earn their degrees at a time when women were not officially awarded them. Central to the story is Tess, a bright and passionate student whose academic success challenges the strict gender norms of the era.The women face opposition from the male students and some faculty who believe women should not be educated like men. As Tess and her friends navigate friendship, romance, and societal pressure, they organize protests and debates to demand equality. The play explores themes of gender discrimination, the value of education, and the courage it takes to challenge tradition. It ends on a hopeful yet realistic note, highlighting the slow progress toward women’s rights in academia.
