Lions Soccer players posing in their military jerseys

The varsity boys soccer team took on Howell North last night in a GAC showdown of two excellent teams. What made the night better was our Lions appreciating those in the military. Dr. Wright, assistant principal at East, took on this project as part of the Purple Star initiative through DESE. Part of the requirement is hosting special events, including this one.

Players, coaches, and staff from both schools had an opportunity to play for a family member and have them recognized before the game. In addition, we conducted a miracle minute at halftime and raised $180 in just a short amount of time to donate to local veteran organizations. Currently enlisted military personnel had an opportunity to stand and be recognized at halftime, and post-game, players from both teams were recognized with a USA-themed match ball. Congrats to Tyler Baxter of FZE and Ethan Scott of Howell North on their well-deserved recognition.

Thank you to Mrs. Vasquez (parent of Francisco) for putting together the military-inspired jerseys. They turned out great and added a special touch to the evening!

The post game man of the match was presented by recently enlisted Army National Guard members, Layla Southards and Jonathan Olson, current FZE seniors.
