Communications between home and school

Dear Parents,
Fort Zumwalt School District knows strong connections between home and school strengthen learning. That’s why we strive to keep families informed of the many components of their children’s lives at school. We use electronic flyers, newsletters, websites, our app and Twitter to help you stay current on events and opportunities for your children.
There also are times when we use email and phone calls. An email from us might be an update from your child’s teacher. It could be a note on a planned event, such as a drill. It could also be a note on something unexpected, which requires immediate notification. Similarly, but less frequently, parents will receive a phone call such as an update on a bus delay or notice of a school closure. We use our automated phone system when we need to reach you immediately, so two things are critical:

   1. List the number you want called first as your Home Telephone in our student database, even if it is a cell number.
   2. Check your voicemail if you miss a call from FZSD. This will save you time and frustration as so many parents immediately call back about the missed call that our lines become very busy.
To improve communication with all parents, we are updating our capabilities for those listed in the “Non-resident parent” fields of our student database. In the past, these parents might have been able to receive select communications, such as report cards only. Now these parents who have requested communications will receive all communications. This will include electronic flyers, emails, phone calls and progress reports/report cards. This change in our system will ensure that all parents receive all of the information related to their student in the timeliest fashion we can provide. Additional notes for parents:

   1. In your email program, be sure to adjust settings so e-mails from don’t go to “spam” or “junk.” Similarly, add to your contacts so you receive flyers.
   2. If you would like to receive text messages, simply text any one of the following words to the number 68453: subscribe, optin, yes. You’ll know you were successful if you receive the following reply message: You are registered to receive aprox 3 msgs/mo. Txt stop to quit, help for help

Thank you for your help in strengthening our connections between home and school. Together we build strong learners, strong schools and strong communities.
