This group of students were chosen to be the featured group during a clinic conducted by Doc Severinsen. &nbsp;This clinic took place in front of 300 students from the&nbsp;other schools that attended the Great Plains Jazz Festival. Ferrante was selected&nbsp;from numerous applicants from across the nation for membership in this&nbsp;prestigious honor ensemble. Ferrante began studying the saxophone at the age of&nbsp;12 and his love of music and playing ability has excelled since that time.<br />&nbsp; Ferrante has been a member of his high school jazz band for four years. He&nbsp;earned the lead tenor saxophone chair in the Missouri All State Jazz Band for&nbsp;three consecutive years, and earned lead alto saxophone chair for the past two&nbsp;years. He also has earned superior ratings at the Missouri State Solo and&nbsp;Ensemble Festival throughout his high school career. By winning first place, each team received a $200&nbsp;Lego Robotic Mindstorm kit from GM.
